General Motors, eBay launch car shopping website

General Motors (GM) and eBay have joined forces to launch a pilot program, enabling consumers to initiate negotiations with dealers and purchase vehicles on the gm.ebay.com shopping platform, according to Reuters.

The website enables visitors to compare and negotiate prices, as well as arrange financing and payment. The same source indicates that the number of GM dealers taking part in the program reaches 225, and collectively they will be listing about 20,000 cars. The pilot will run from 11 August until 8 September 2009. The program is being limited initially to California. In case the pilot succeeds, GM will expand the program nationwide.

During the quarter ending 30 June 2009, eBay registered USD 2.10 billion in revenues, a 5 percent decline from the same quarter of 2008.
