Jumia, MTN to fuel e-commerce in Nigeria

Wednesday 11 September 2013 00:57 CET | News

Nigerian telecommunications network MTN has partnered e-commerce retailer Jumia, to enable customers who purchase mobile phones from the store to buy items online.

The initiative is expected to boost the country’s economy and to enable more small businesses to contribute to the development of local economies across the West African country.

Nigeria’s e-commerce sector is expanding rapidly as online sales are expected to double by 2014. E-commerce sales grew 25 percent in 2011 to USD 381 million, up from USD 305 million in 2010.

In August 2013, Jumia has launched its mobile commerce app in Nigeria, Morocco, Ivory Coast and Kenya. The app is available for Android phones.
