Macy's to add mobile checkout to all stores by end of 2018

Wednesday 21 March 2018 | 11:10 AM CET

CNCB reports that Macy’s has unveiled plans to offer a mobile checkout option within its mobile app to a full line of stores by the end of 2018.

The announcement was made by CEO Jeff Gennette at the ShopTalk conference in Las Vegas.

Apart from mobile checkout, the company also plans to implement an augmented reality shopping experience for furniture, a feature that may be available for some customers starting with April 2018. The new feature lets customers virtually place Macy’s furniture within their own living spaces to see how it would look and fit before making a purchase.

Macy's has been testing the mobile checkout option at its store in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Shoppers will be able to scan items’ bar codes with their phones, adding the products to their basked. Relevant discounts and rewards will also be applied, via a shopper's loyalty account, throughout.

When customers are finished shopping, they will head to a special counter for mobile checkout, where an associate will remove security tags and make sure the number of items scanned adds up to those paid for.

Macy's will also soon start piloting mobile checkout at its Bloomingdale's location in New York's SoHo neighborhood, with plans to extend the app’s use to other stores.
