MercadoLibre makes e-commerce portal available in Portugal

Latin American e-commerce technology company MercadoLibre has launched its platform in Portugal. The initiative enables Portuguese customers to access the website at MercadoLivre.pt to purchase and sell online.

MercadoLibre has selected this country for its potential market, where 46.2 percent of the population has access to broadband internet. Furthermore, in Q4 2009, e-commerce companies in Portugal managed to increase their client base by 20 percent. Those interested in using the platform must sign up for free as a user and create a username and a password.

MercadoLibre operates in 12 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Panama. In 2009, more than 3 million users sold products and 9 million people made 29.5 million product purchases via the company`s platform, up 39 percent year-over-year.
