Online spending reaches USD 33.8 bln during 2012 holiday season-to-date

Retail e-commerce spending for the first 44 days of the November-December 2012 holiday season has reached USD 33.8 billion, up by 13 percent since 2011, a recent study indicates.

According to a survey by comScore, a source of digital business analytics, on Green Monday has let the way, with people spending USD 1.275 billion online. During the week of December 8-14, online spending has reached USD 6, 992 million, up by 11 percent as compared to the same period in 2011.

Results point out that for the 2012 holiday season-to-date, eleven individual days have exceeded USD 1 billion in online retail sales, already surpassing 2011 record of ten shopping days. Cyber Monday (November 26th, 2012) currently ranks as the heaviest online spending day of the season and in history, closing at USD 1.465 billion. Tuesday, December 4th, 2012 ranks second with USD 1.362 billion, followed by Monday, December 10th, 2012 (Green Monday) with USD 1.275 billion.
