QR code-enabled shopping option offered by Alibaba in newspapers

China-based ecommerce company Alibaba has partnered with media organizations to allow consumers to purchase items advertised or mentioned in newspapers, businessinsider.com reports.

Consumers have to scan a QR code printed in the newspapers, and they are directed to purchase an item via one of Alibabas online shopping websites, like Taobao.

China has more than 1,000 daily newspapers with a circulation of over 100 million readers, so the partnerships are meant to enable Alibaba raise awareness among those who might not have a lot of exposure to online buying.

In recent news, Alibaba has extended integration with the Chinese microblogging service, Sina Weibo in what concerns 8 additional aspects.
