Square acquires Weebly to improve its ecommerce offering

Tuesday 1 May 2018 08:01 CET | News

Square has announced that it will acquire DIY website builder Weebly for USD 265 million to enhance its ecommerce offering for small businesses.

Following its strategy of branching out from its core payment software and hardware business, Square has added several new tools to its suite. Apart from integrating payment methods, accounting software, POS back-office systems and other services, the US-based payments company will also offer small businesses a website builder.

The company plans to build an ecosystem designed for small business owners who can start selling online with a single integration. The latest acquisition will also help Square with its omnichannel offering.
