As a result of its overseas expansion strategies on the long term, Chinese auction site Taobao.com expects the number of its global users purchasing products and services on its platform to reach 1 billion in 10 years.

According to company representatives cited by tech.yahoo.com, Taobao has not yet developed a concrete plan to achieve this purpose, but its intention is to focus on regions with cultural similarities to China first and also boost growth in China and encourage sales of foreign products and services. The number of shoppers registered by Taobao currently reaches 25 million each day, AlibabaS CEO Jack Ma indicates. In H1 2009, Taobaos transaction volume reached USD 11.8 billion (CNY 80.9 billion), a 97 percent increase year-over-year.
