The Financial Times to adopt pay-per-article strategy

Friday 7 August 2009 13:26 CET | News

The Financial Times has revealed plans to launch an online clipping service for registered users, following the announcement made by the managing director of the News International group on the decision to charge online content starting 2010, according to the online edition of The Independent.

The clipping service will enable registered users to save, store and share articles and webpages via the publications website, as well as create a clippings list, save articles and share their lists with friends and colleagues. The same source indicates that FT has already initiated discussions with some payment processing companies regarding the implementation of an online payment system (similar to Amazon and Apples iTunes) to allow customers to pay for online articles that would otherwise be available only to subscribers.

The Financial Times hopes to launch the pay-per-view system by the summer of 2010.
