Twitter to launch @earlybird service

Thursday 8 July 2010 11:46 CET | News

Twitter has unveiled plans to develop a platform designed to provide the Twitter community members with deals on products and events that will appear on the Twitter account.

The social network intends to roll out offers concerning products and events that could be filtered by category, such as apparel or gadgets in the future. To be able to make the product offers, Twitter will partner with advertisers who will determine the terms of the offer, including availability, amount, and price. Such partnerships are expected to generate income for Twitter as well. In addition, Twitter members can submit suggestions concerning the products they would prefer to see advertised by replying to @earlybird account.

According to Sean Garret, Twitter’s spokesperson, the service will focus initially on the US market, with the possibility to roll out deals specific to cities or countries as @earlybird grows.
