During the period under review, consumers spent GBP 3.9 billion online, up 7.6 percent year-on-year, the lowest rate registered by the index so far. On a monthly basis, consumer online spending has increased by 1.9 percent. Sales in the clothing, footwear and accessories category rose by 10 percent as compared to September 2008, while sales of electrical items increased by 14 percent compared to last year. For the month of August 2009 alone, UK shoppers spent GBP3.8 billion online.
