US: Black Friday online spending up by 26 percent – study

In 2011, US e-commerce spending has increased by 26 percent on Black Friday, as compared with the corresponding period in 2010, a recent study has shown.

The traditional retail sales have also witnessed a 7 percent increase during the same day, according to the data gathered by the ShopperTrak, a provider of retail and mall foot-traffic counting services.

Online shopping sales have grown from USD 648 million in 2010 to USD 816 million in 2011, according to a study released by research firm comScore. The same source has indicated that during Thanksgiving Day, online sales have also seen an 18 percent increase since 2010, accounting for USD 479 million. According to comScore, the online sales made during the first 25 days of November 2011 have reached USD 12.74 billion.

Regarding the number of people who have visited the online retails websites, the study has revealed that in 2011 50 million of US internet users have accessed the websites, as compared to only 35 percent in 2010.
