According to data from comScore, during the period under review, US online spending has reached almost USD 49.84 billion. Previous comScore results point out that in Q1 2013, e-commerce spending has only grown by 13 percent y-o-y, with the increases in tax deductions that took effect in January 2013 having a negative impact on online sales growth.
Research unveils that consumers using smartphones and tablets have also increased their spending by 24 percent in Q2 2013, amounting to USD 4.7 billion.
With regard to product categories, the survey shows that apparel and accessories, digital content and subscriptions, sport and fitness, consumer packaged goods and home and garden have each registered y-o-y sales increases of 19 percent or more. Apparel and accessories had the highest-grossing mobile commerce sales take in the second quarter, at USD 700 million, followed by computer hardware and digital content and subscriptions, though no figures were provided for those categories.
comScore reveals that current statistics mark the 15th consecutive positive quarter of e-retail growth, and the 11th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth.
