The Digital Marketing Insights report, which was released by Adobe, has also indicated that during the period under review, those who use tablets spent 54 percent more than their counterparts on smartphones, and 21 percent more per purchase than smartphone visitors.
Research has also shown that tablet owners were almost three times more likely to buy products and services than smartphone owners.
Tablet owners who visit retail websites are typically men, ages 18 to 34 and they allegedly tend to become more affluent than other online shoppers.
The report is based on a sample of 16.2 billion anonymous visits on websites of more than 150 US retailers.
PayPal has forecasted that in 2012 mobile payment transactions will grow substantially and based on recent statistics Adobe believes that tablet owners will have a major contribution. In 2011, tablet owners have been the most valuable online customers.
