Japan, Australia, and Singapore co-chaired a WTO meeting in Geneva, where attendees discussed ways of facilitating cross-border exchanges of client information, as well as customs procedures for online trade. The US intends to share global online client information by promoting an open environment, while China favors storing important data within each country. Currently, there are no international rules on cross-border ecommerce.
At the previous WTO meeting at the beginning of 2019, members exchanged views on how WTO negotiations can capture opportunities offered by ecommerce for businesses, consumers and the global economy.
