The growth of Australia’s online retail sector is being hindered by a slow acceptance of mobile commerce, a recent research has found.

The report compiled by Stamford Interactive revealed that 15 percent of surveyed retailers have a smartphone-friendly website, out of which only 7 percent allowed consumers to use their mobile handsets to purchase products.

Moreover, just 2 percent of research participants offered a mobile experience as demanded by the customers, the study indicates.

When it comes to ways of engaging customers, 30 percent of interviewees are offering an iPhone app, 15 percent have a mobile-enabled website and only 5 percent are using both mediums, as specified by Stamford Interactive.

The survey was carried out on 100 Australian retailers such as Jeanswest, Target, Woolworths and Bing Lee.
