ACS Transportation was selected by Alstom Transport, a division of French multinational company Alstom which develops and markets systems, equipment and services for the railway industry and which is in charge of building the tram system in the UAE. The tram line will have 13 stations and is set to be equipped with exclusively with contactless ticketing technology.
Under the terms of the contract with Alstom, ACS Transportation Solutions is set to supply ticketing equipment including validation terminals, control terminals and vending machines capable of issuing and recharging contactless cards and selling single-use contactless tickets. Moreover, ACS will develop a central management system which assists with disseminating fare-setting rules, monitors customer data, manages restrictive lists and security keys and distributes revenues.
All of the equipment provided by ACS is set to be Arabic/English bilingual. The network is scheduled to enter commercial service in early 2011.
