Asiacell, Amwal to offer e-banking services in Iraq

Iraqi mobile telecommunications company Asiacell has signed a contract with Amwal, a consortium of private Iraqi banking institutions. Under the terms of the deal, Asiacell is set to provide Amwal members with electronic banking services which include mobile and internet banking, thus seeking to provide Iraqi bank customers with additional means of settling financial transactions.

Asiacells subscribers and the consortiums clients will be provided with access to a series of services such as inter-bank transfers and bill settlements; they will also be able to carry out online purchases via their Visa or MasterCard, make ATM cash withdrawals, account balances inquiries and funds transfers. Additionally, Asiacell subscribers will be able to use this service to purchase credit for their mobile phone lines.
