Australia: epay to partner Cubic for Sydney smartcard ticketing scheme

Thursday 7 October 2010 09:45 CET | News

epay, a subsidiary of US-based payments processor Euronet Worldwide, plans to partner Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a developer of smartcard ticketing systems for public transport, for the introduction of an electronic ticketing system in Sydney, Australia.

As a member of the Pearl Consortium, which was recently awarded the smartcard ticketing contract by the New South Wales Government’s Public Transport Ticketing Corporation (PTTC), epay will ensure electronic transaction processing, including the distribution and selling of smartcards for adult, child and concession travel. epay will also provide reload services for customers via its retail network.

With the new ticketing system, customers will simply “tag on” using a smartcard at the start of their journey and “tag off” at the end, allowing the correct fare to be automatically calculated and deducted from the funds loaded onto the smartcard.

The electronic ticketing system will begin to be rolled out across Greater Sydney’s public transport network by the end of 2012.
