Belgium-based telecom operator Belgacom has joined forces with French financial services provider BNP Paribas Fortis to develop a mobile commerce ‘ecosystem’ for Belgian merchants and consumers that enables shopping and payments via smartphones.

The companies have selected Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, to help build and launch a mobile platform that is set to enable Belgian consumers to use their mobile devices to make ‘in-app’ payments (purchases conducted within mobile applications), receive tickets and coupons, and participate in loyalty programs for mobile shopping.

Under the agreement with Belgacom and BNP Paribas Fortis, Accenture is set to help the two companies design and build a mobile wallet and platform based on the Accenture Mobility platform. Accenture is also set to provide application maintenance services and create a developer community for participating Belgian merchants to create mobile apps.

In recent news, Chinese payment services provider YSPay has developed a new mobile payment solution in partnership with Accenture.
