Boku secures funding from Andreessen Horowitz

Monday 31 May 2010 11:34 CET | News

US mobile payments provider Boku has received an undisclosed amount of funding from Andreessen Horowitz, the venture capital firm led by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz.

The Boku payment technology allows users to click on the Pay by Mobile button on the merchant’s checkout page and instead of entering their credit card number or turning to an online payment service, they have to input their phone number as well as their mobile provider. Boku introduced its service in June 2009 and it currently has over 1,000 direct mobile payments partners, with a global coverage in 60 countries.

In January 2010, Boku raised USD 25 million in series C capital led by DAG Ventures with continued participation from Benchmark Capital, Index Ventures and Khosla Ventures.
