boxPAY launches mobile billing app for digital content

Tuesday 8 November 2011 15:04 CET | News

Ireland-based mobile technology firm boxPAY has launched a global billing platform to press and media in order to charge readers for digital content through their mobile phones.

By implementing the boxPAY payment system on a website, a company can charge readers for specific content that a customer is interested in purchasing.

In turn, readers do not have to get a full subscription, but pay a small amount which is charged to their mobile phone bill or deducted from a pre-paid balance.

boxPAY is expected to provide companies with a billing code that produces a payment box on their website. When readers wish to gain one-time access to premium content, the payment box prompts them to send a text message to complete the purchase, after which the content is made available.

With this app, media companies could monetize customers who do not have access to credit cards.

The boxPAY billing service has been made available in over 35 countries worldwide.
