Brixton Pound to roll out tap and pay contactless payments in 2015

Monday 22 December 2014 08:36 CET | News

Users of Brixton`s independent currency, the Brixton Pound (BGBP), will soon be able to pay for goods and services using the new `tap and pay` contactless payment technology.

Set to be introduced in 2015, the Brixton Pound will implement contactless payment terminals for BGBP businesses and traders, enabling users to pay in their local currency.

The new tap and pay system employs near field communication (NFC) technology, which is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into proximity (typically a distance of 10 cm or less).
