Norway-based financial services provider DnB NOR has revealed plans to roll out a mobile payment services trial for its MasterCard cardholders.

The program will enable participating DnB NOR cardholders to trial the service that will enable them to use their NFC-enabled mobile phones to make payments at any location that accepts MasterCard PayPass via the MasterCard Mobile Over-the-Air Provisioning Service. The latter is a web-based service which allows for the transfer of encrypted consumer payment card information via the carrier network into the high security area of the consumers NFC-enabled mobile phone. Via the service, financial institutions can introduce contactless payment programs on their MasterCard and Maestro cardholders mobile phones.

The MasterCard Mobile Over-the-Air Provisioning Service was launched in 2008. The company has extended the service to also include the EMV configuration supporting Maestro PayPass and Maestro Prepaid using the Mobile MasterCard PayPass M/Chip application.

Telenor, a global provider of telecommunications services, has also announced its participation in the trial.
