First Data rolls out mVoucher technology for merchants

Wednesday 23 March 2011 11:51 CET | News

US electronic commerce and payment processing company First Data has rolled out a mobile voucher, in a bid to enable merchants to deliver offers to consumers via e-mails or mobile devices.

The newly-launched mVouchers systems are expected to be delivered as coupons or rewards and can be used for redemption online or in-store through a mobile device as an SMS, a 2-D barcode or via NFC technology.

How it works

Consumers request or receive a mobile voucher either through a banner ad, short code, loyalty program or as a special promotion. The mVoucher system is set to provide the merchant with an optional registration process to allow their customers to opt-in to receive additional virtual offers through e-mail or SMS. The consumer then visits the merchant location where the cashier enters the 16-digit code or scans the barcode at the PoS.

As part of the mVoucher system launch, First Data and US alternative payments services provider CardinalCommerce have teamed up to develop a mobile commerce platform to provide an integration service for merchants to deliver mVouchers.

In recent news , First Data has been granted a patent for technology to activate multiple prepaid cards at the PoS.
