FNB launches in-chat money transfer service

Tuesday 3 September 2013 11:38 CET | News

South African financial services provider First National Bank (FNB) has launched a method of transferring money using an instant messaging service and has included the functionality in its smartphone app.

Customers using the FNB app can send money to a contact as an instant message. Funds are sent from and received to an FNB eWallet, a service which is available to non-FNB customers and linked to users’ cellphone number.

Users that aren’t FNB customers can load money into their eWallet at an FNB ATM that supports automated deposits (FNB ADT) after registering at an FNB EasyPlan branch. The registration requires a green bar-coded South African identity book.

In recent news, financial services provider Equity Bank has entered an agreement with First National Bank to offer cash transfer from PayPal to bank accounts.
