Gemalto acquires Ericsson IPX mobile payments platform

Dutch digital security company Gemalto has entered an agreement with global mobile telecom company Ericsson to acquire the latter’s Internet Payment Exchange (IPX). The terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.

As part of the agreement, IPX will join Gemaltos software and services business line in the mobile communications segment. Gemalto is also set to acquire Ericssons Trusted Service Manager (TSM) activity.

Ericsson IPX is a mobile payment platform that enables micropayments and purchases directly from mobile phones. IPX connects more than 1.000 customers to over 120 Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) worldwide.

In recent news, Gemalto has been selected by Ukrainian financial institution PrivatBank to provide the Optelio contactless stickers for the latter’s first commercial mobile payments deployment.
