Gemalto mobile NFC payment application certified by MasterCard

Dutch digital security company Gemalto has made available its Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) software application compliant with the mobile MasterCard PayPass M/Chip 4 technology, the MasterCard payment specification designed for mobile NFC.

As a result, the software application and the UICC have both achieved the compliance assessment and security testing certification in accordance with MasterCard’s chip security requirements.

Gemaltos software application is set to include the Trusted Service Management (TSM) interface for the PayPass technology, thus enabling mobile account issuance and over-the-air (OTA) management. Moreover, the Gemalto mobile NFC payment application can be configured so as to cover several card portfolios including debit, credit and prepaid.

With the certification, Gemalto has entered a partnership with a global financial institution and a mobile operator in the UK to implement the new MasterCard certified mobile payment application and carry out the offering’s roll out. The identities of the two companies are yet to be disclosed.

The announcement has been made at the CARTES in Asia 2011 event.

In a recent development , Gemalto has entered a partnership with global provider of electronics applications with semiconductor services STMicroelectronics, in a bid to develop several offerings for NFC-based applications.
