Gemalto, STMicroelectronics to develop joint services for NFC applications

Dutch digital security company Gemalto has entered a partnership with global provider of electronics applications with semiconductor services STMicroelectronics, in a bid to develop several offerings for NFC-based applications.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties are expected to develop a number of services that include the ST33 EAL5+ chipset from ST designed for mobile applications and Gemalto’s operating system, mobile handset software, Trusted Service Management (TSM) and personalization services.

The combined services are set to enable the implementation of NFC-powered offerings, including consumer applications such as contactless payment, transportation ticketing, personal data protection and device integrity.

In a recent development , Gemalto has entered an agreement with Zimbabwe-based network operator NetOne to offer its LinqUs service to enable NetOne subscribers to carry out money transfer using their mobile phones.
