Monday 5 July 2010 00:51 CET | News

Gentag, a developer of sensor-based technology, has made available an NXP mobile phone RFID reader chip.

Based on the RFID sensor platform, the new chip is set to be compatible with any sensor or mobile device that features multi-protocol NFC technology. Consequently, RFID mobile phones will be able to read any sensor or device, allowing its owners to use their mobiles to make NFC payments.

Nokia has already unveiled plans to roll out NFC-compatible smartphones in 2011. Gentag is currently focusing on disposable RFID sensor applications for consumer diagnostic applications.
