GlobalPlatform launches Trusted Execution Environment compliance program

Monday 29 October 2012 11:52 CET | News

GlobalPlatform, a cross-industry association which identifies, develops and publishes specifications for the deployment and management of embedded applications on chip technology, has launched a compliance program to standardize the trusted execution environment (TEE).

The TEE is a secure area that resides in the main processor of a smartphone and ensures that sensitive data is stored, processed and protected in a trusted environment. GlobalPlatform recognizes the important role the TEE plays in bridging the gap between the operating system such as Android, Windows Phone and Symbian and the secure element (SE). As a result, the industry body has released a number of specifications that detail the hardware and software architectures behind the TEE, how to develop trusted applications and the communication between applications running in a rich operating system and trusted applications residing in the TEE.

In recent news, GlobalPlatform has enhanced its compliance program to certify UICC products that meet GlobalPlatform’s contactless services specification.
