Friday 21 January 2011 11:59 CET | News

In an article published by media outlet Harvard Business Review, Google chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt has revealed plans to head Google’s strategic initiatives for 2011 towards the development of the mobile money industry.

According to Eric Schmidt, Google’s first step is to develop the Long Term Evolution (LTE) platform, planning to reach 8- to 10- mega¬bit networks, which are expected to make new mobile apps available, such as entertainment and social ones.

Schmidt has also highlighted the fact that in order to target banks in poorer parts of the world, modern technology should focus on the development of mobile phones as enhanced financial tools.

Eric Schmidt considers that Google has to focus on the availability of inexpensive smartphones in the poorest countries, foreseeing that a billion people may be provided with such mobile devices over the next years.
