Google is reportedly planning to roll out a mobile payment system on 26 May 2011, in a bid to enable consumers to pay at checkout by using their mobile phones, media outlet reuters.com reports.

According to the source, the upcoming m-payment service is expected to be available for Android-powered mobile phones from Sprint Nextel, a US provider of wireless and wireline communication services.

Moreover, Google is said to be working with MasterCard for the launch of the service, as well as with global financial services provider Citigroup. However, all parties declined to comment on the topic.

The source reports that Google has allegedly inked contracts for the service with several US-based retailers, including Macy's, American Eagle Outfitters and Subway, although is yet to be decided whether the project is set to be launched nationwide or just in New York in an initial phase.

In recent news , Google has launched a product search engine, dubbed Google Shopping, to enable people in Australia to find products online, the online media outlet zdnet.com reports.
