The announcement was made by Isis, the joint venture between operators AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless. According to their representatives, HTC, LG, Motorola Mobility, RIM, Samsung Mobile and Sony Ericsson are in agreement to introduce NFC-enabled mobile devices which are set to be in conformity with the Isis NFC and technology standards.
For consumers that do not own NFC-enabled smartphones, Isis has also concluded a partnership with US mobile contactless payment services company DeviceFidelity to add NFC functionality to mobile devices.
This technology is set to allow Isis consumers to use their handsets to make mobile payments, store and present loyalty cards and redeem offers at participating retailers.
In November 2010, US-based mobile carriers Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary T-Mobile USA have established a joint venture to offer contactless mobile-phone payment based on NFC technology.
