Inside partners Taggo for contactless mobile payments program in Singapore and SE Asia

French contactless chip technology company Inside Contactless has entered a partnership with Taggo, a membership card aggregator and storefront. Under the terms of the deal, Inside is set to provide infrastructure components for the Taggo service, which is set for launch in Singapore and other parts of South East Asia early in 2010.

Using ID stickers based on Inside’s PicoPass 2KS contactless memory chip, contactless readers based on Inside’s M210-2G proximity coupler and Inside’s integration and adoption services, Taggo has developed a means for mobile phone stickers to replace plastic loyalty and membership cards from a variety of retail merchants.

Taggo’s platform-as-a-service model allows companies that provide CRM systems and services to offer retailers the ability to add their card programs to the Taggo storefront. Customers add a PicoPass-based Taggo sticker to their mobile phone and join programs via a simple SMS text message or by browsing the my-Taggo website; all the enrolment details are automatically sent to the retailer as if the customer had filled out an enrolment form. Customers tap their phones at the point of sale to enjoy the same benefits as presenting a plastic card.

CRM suppliers integrate Taggo as Value Added Resellers (VARs). Taggos first VARs currently serve retailers across the region, in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and other countries.

The initial Taggo deployment is expected to begin in Singapore in time for the holiday shopping season, with full rollout of the service scheduled for early next year.
