Isis mobile wallet platform rebrands as Softcard

Isis, the US mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, is changing its name to Softcard after a violent military group of the same name began to dominate headlines around the world, Bloomberg reports.

According to the source, Isis has unveiled the new brand on its website after saying it planned to change its name almost two months ago.

One of Isis’ products, the Isis Mobile Wallet enables consumers to shop and pay using their mobile phone, by storing virtual versions of a customers participating credit or prepaid cards, as well as coupons and merchant loyalty cards. To use the Isis Mobile Wallet, customers have to select a payment card and tap their smartphone on the point-of-sale (POS) terminal.

In recent news, Isis and pump manufacturer Wayne have entered a partnership to launch mobile payments at the pump for US retailer Maverik.
