Barclays Kenya, a subsidiary of UK financial services company Barclays, has rolled out an international money transfer service dubbed Barclays Pingit that will initially be available between the UK and Kenya, online media outlet allafrica.com reports.

The person-to-person (P2P) money transfer service has been operational in the UK and allows sending and receiving funds through mobile phones. Pingit links the users’ current accounts with their mobile phone numbers, enabling payments to be sent directly to that account. Senders and recipients are notified about transactions via SMS. Recipients in Kenya will have to open accounts with Barclays which will be linked to their mobile numbers via its Hello Money mobile banking service.

In recent news, Barclays has launched a new mobile banking application that allows customers to manage their accounts while on-the-go.
