KPN, Vodafone to forge public transport mobile payments

Tuesday 23 May 2017 13:11 CET | News

Vodafone and KPN, a Dutch mobile network operator, are launching support for public transport payments with NFC Android smartphones.

The service makes use of the Secure Element on the Sim card and requires that the customers connect their OV card to a back account for automatic top-up, allowing them to travel at full price until the subscriptions and discounts will be added to the mobile platform.

The service has been tested since 2015 by the operators, being now commercially available, and will be rolled out gradually in 2017, telecompaper.com reports.
