The prepaid general-purpose reloadable mobile and utilities cards are expected to reach almost USD 160 billion annually by 2015 in Latin America.

The prepaid general-purpose reloadable cards which are connected to mobile and utility services enable consumers to buy airtime and pay electricity bills via SMS, internet, phone or scheduled debit, without an underlying bank account. Estimates have been made by NovoPayment, Latin America’s prepaid card service provider, whose prepaid programs allow 200,000 mobile and utility consumers to pay for services on-demand or via scheduled debits to their Maestro, MasterCard or Visa branded prepaid cards.
