m-Via secures USD 17 mln in funding round, rebrands as Boom Financial

m-via, a US-based mobile banking and money transfer services provider for the US immigrant community, has secured USD 17 million in a financing round led by mobile operator Digicel Group and has changed its name to Boom Financial.

Boom Financial is set to use this investment to extend its product team in the US, as well as to enhance sales channels and distribution in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Boom mobile money service allows consumers to use their mobile phones to make domestic and international money transfers and payments via text messages (SMS). Members can also make purchases and withdrawals at participating Boom merchants and at Boom ATMs in more than 150 countries.
