MasterCard enables mobile payments for Subway restaurants

Monday 10 October 2011 | 03:10 PM CET

MasterCard Worldwide will equip restaurants belonging to global sandwich franchise SUBWAY with PayPass-enabled contactless payment terminals at more than 7,000 US locations by the end of Q1 2012.

In order to pay, Subway customers will tap a MasterCard PayPass-enabled plastic card, mobile handset or other device equipped with PayPass technology at the point of sale. If the purchases are under USD 50, clients are not required to sign receipts.

In July 2011, US financial services company US Bank has launched the US Bank MasterCard PayPass VITAband, a wristband that combines contactless payment technology with emergency contact and medical information.
