MasterCard, RBS WorldPay launch contactless payments trial in Liverpool

Tuesday 27 October 2009 00:49 CET | News

Global payments processor MasterCard Worldwide has teamed up with RBS WorldPay to roll out a contactless payments pilot in Liverpool both in shops across the city and on the citys bus network, run by international public transport group Stagecoach.

Starting this week, UK Liverpool-based consumers will be able to use their MasterCard PayPass and Maestro PayPass contactless-enabled credit and debit cards to pay for goods and bus rides across the city.

The rollout of contactless payments follows a recent MasterCard poll that shows Liverpool’s shoppers demand greater speed and convenience when making payments - nearly two thirds (61 percent) are frustrated by queuing while most of them refuse to stand in line for longer than five minutes (66 percent).
