MasterCard, Smart Hub partner to offer mobile payments

MasterCard Worldwide and Smart Hub, a subsidiary of Smart Communications, have entered a partnership for the delivery of mobile payments in developing markets .

Under the agreement, MasterCard will combine its electronic payments know-how with Smart Hub’s mobile payments platform and telecom experience to create a mobile payments infrastructure for the world’s developing economies.

The partnership will built upon the introduction of the MasterCard Mobile Payments Gateway, an open mobile payment processing platform designed to enable access to MasterCard Mobile Payment Solutions in developing markets. The co-partnered mobile financial service will be initially launched on the Brazilian market, with Itaú Unibanco, Redecard and mobile network operator Vivo in Brazil as beneficiaries.

Smart Communications is a wireless services provider (MNO) that operates across the Philippines.
