MasterCard to roll out NFC payments in Georgia

MasterCard has joined forces with Georgian banks to roll out mobile payments services in 2012, media outlet nfcnews.com reports.

According to the source, Kemal Uyan, regional business development director for MasterCard South East Europe, expressed the view that the company is planning to roll out an NFC service for contactless transactions at the PoS, as well as a remote mobile payments platform.

Moreover, the source indicates that MasterCard is currently in talks with the Bank of Georgia, TBC Bank, Liberty Bank, Cartu Bank, ProCredit Bank Georgia and TaoPrivatBank.

In recent news, Visa, MasterCard, US-based direct banking and payment services company Discover and US financial services company American Express are planning to team up for mobile commerce via Isis, a contactless joint venture (JV).
