The research, released by global developer of business software and hardware systems Oracle and carried out in Q1 2011, has found out that m-commerce has grown dramatically among US consumers in recent years.
Thus, the Q1 2011 report has pointed out that 48 percent of polled consumers have claimed to use their mobile devices to research or browse products, a 37 percent increase compared to a consumer benchmark survey carried out in July 2010 by US-based e-commerce services developer Art Technology Group (ATG), Oracle’s recent acquisition.
Moreover, the research has revealed that 29 percent of US respondents have made at least one purchase via their mobile phones in Q1 2011, more than double the number in an ATG survey carried out in 2009.
As far as mobile retail preferences by age and gender are concerned, the survey has highlighted that on an overall analysis, all age groups have experienced growth in m-commerce usage. Thus, the report has revealed that more than two times as many consumers aged 35 and older in the survey have made a purchase via a mobile phone since 2009, compared to a 74 percent increase for consumers aged 18-34.
The report, dubbed “Mobile Trends: Consumer Views of Mobile Shopping and Mobile Service Providers” is a joint collaboration between Oracle and ATG and has focused on examining the use of mobile devices for shopping and commerce-related activities among US consumers.
