US financial services company Citigroup and South Korean mobile telecommunications operator SK Telecom are planning to expand their joint mobile banking and payments initiative Mobile Money Ventures (MMV) to six more Asian countries by the end of 2009, americanbanker.com reports.

The same source quotes a statement by MMV’s chief executive, who indicates that MMV is expected to go live in Singapore towards the end of Q3 2009. By 2010, the company also plans to shift focus from the banking sector, which currently receives the most emphasis, to its payments services and as such integrate a remittance feature to its payments platform.

Mobile Money was founded in early 2008 by Citigroup and SK Telecom and provides mobile banking and payments, funds transfers and bill payment services in the Philippines and Hong Kong.
