Mobile payments market to reach USD 245 billion by 2014 – report

Mobile financial transactions are expected to reach USD 245 billion worldwide by 2014, according to a recent report by global consultancy firm Ernst & Young quoted by economictimes.indiatimes.com.

According to the same source, the number of users that are set to carrying out transactions via mobile money is expected to reach 340 million by 2014, representing 5 percent of existing mobile subscribers worldwide.

The rising popularity of mobile payments, especially for consumers in populated areas such as the Asia-Pacific region, is also expected to contribute to the growth of global m-payments ecosystem by 2014, the report finds.
