US mobile payments company Zong has won a contract from Mochi Media, an online games network developer, under the terms of which the latter is to integrate Zongs mobile payments platform into its Mochi Coins micro-transaction and distribution platform for Flash Games.

MochiCoins is a system which is used to access paid content in browser games. The platform allows developers to put additional content in their games which users can pay for with the MochiCoins in their account. These coins are in turn paid for via Mochi Medias website.

Zong allows consumers to purchase virtual currency, virtual gifts and other in-application features or items with their mobile phones. Customers enter their mobile number in the Zong application when they want to make an online purchase, the Zong application then sends a PIN number to the customer’s mobile phone which is then entered into the payment application. Users will receive the charge on their next phone bill. Zong is especially popular among young customers, who do not have a bank account or a credit card and want to complete small purchases online. Zong’s transaction platform has processed payments for over 10 million unique users in 2009.
