Monitise launches Chinese version of its cloud-based mobile money platform

Wednesday 4 December 2013 | 09:30 AM CET

UK-based mobile financial technology company Monitise has deployed and launched, with regulatory approval, its mobile money platform with full access for Chinese speakers.

‘Easy TopUp’ provides a mobile service to top up PCCW-HKT pre-paid SIM cards with payment taken from their bank account, as opposed to purchasing vouchers from convenience stores.

The green light to launch the service follows the granting of regulatory approval by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

Financial institution Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) provides this service to its customers in cooperation with Joint Electronic Teller Services (JETCO), an ATM network provider in Hong Kong and Macau. The service is set to allow PCCW-HKT mobile customers to top up their mobile airtime and data SIM cards.

In recent news, Monitise has unveiled plans to acquire full ownership of Monitise Asia Pacific, its 50 percent joint venture with First Eastern Mobile Investments, a China-based investment group controlled by Victor Chu.
