UK-based mobile point of sale start-up SumUp has signed a deal with American Express that will allow it to process American Express card payments in all major regions in which it operates.

Under the deal, SumUp merchants are set to gain the ability to accept payments from American Express card members. In December 2012, SumUp extended its service to merchants giving it a presence in ten European countries.

SumUp is currently available in the UK, Germany, Ireland, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and Belgium. The company was founded in 2011 and targets merchants and small businesses which cannot afford the costs and infrastructure required for traditional card payment acceptance services.
